This page contains basic information and pointers to allocations for FACETS project work on national computing centers.
Facets builds and runs on several types of laptops, desktops, and clusters. In addition, FACETS is built and run on national centers. The difference is that some national centers require project allocations and management of user access. This page is an attempt to capture the administrative details for FACETS team members to get access to the supercomputers at these centers.
NERSC (LBL)
Home page: http://www.nersc.gov/
NERSC repository project m681 (ironically, Cobb seems to currently be associated with m649 - is this an error?) is for FACETS or "Fusion Application for Core-Edge Transport Simulations"
The NERSC PI is Scott Kruger of Tech-x (kruger@…)
How to request access and addition to the FACETS project at NERSC:
The project's PI (or designated PI Proxies and Project managers) can request, via the NERSC Information Management (NIM) web interface, that individual users be added to (given access to) the repository. Scott Kruger and John Cary are the current allocation PI and proxy.
Users new to NERSC must sign and fax back the Computer Use Policies available at https://www.nersc.gov/nusers/accounts/usage.php form before they are added to a repository.
Resources available to FACETS at NERSC are: (up to date details can be found at https://www.nersc.gov/nusers/systems/ )
Computers:
Franklin (Cray XT4, 2.3 Ghz Opterons, 9,660 nodes, 38,640 cores, 77TB memory, SeaStar? interconnect)
bassi (IBM p575, 1.9 GHz Power5, 111 nodes, 888 cores, 3.55 TB memory, IBM HPS interconnect)
DaVinci? (SGI Altix, 1.4GHz Itanium2, 275 node, 550 cores, 550GB memory, Ethernet interconnect)
Jacquard (LinuxNetworx?, 2.2 GHz Opteron, 356 nodes, 712 cores, 2.14TB memory, Infiniband interconnect)
Storage:
HPSS
and the NIM-ldap service that centrally manages user access and roles
ALCF (ANL)
Home page: http://www.alcf.anl.gov/
The FACETS team has a discretionary allocation on ALCF resources surveyor and intrepid. Details are available at: https://accounts.alcf.anl.gov/accounts/project-join.php?project=facets
the available machines are IBM Blue Gene's {surveryor,intrepid}.alcf.anl.gov
The ALCF access methods are by either cryptocard provided by ANL/ALCF and/or SSHv2 keys which can be uploaded from the ALCF account page (link below)
Currently John Cobb (cobbjw@…) and Jay Larson (larson@…) are listed as allocation PI for ALCF. They can help add users to projects to get access.
For information on your access at ALCF, you can log onto the ALCF user support web-page and manage and monitor your access:
https://accounts.alcf.anl.gov/accounts/account.php (use the username and web access password sent when your ALCF account was created)
ALCF uses softenv
The FACETS project area on ALCF is: <TBSL>
The ALCF access methods is provided by ORNL/LCF SecureID token
LCF (ORNL)
Home page: http://www.nccs.gov
A discretionary project allocation on LCF machines has been requested by John Cobb. We are awaiting action on that request
The FACETS project area on LCF is: <TBSL>
